Junior fencing

Fencing from age 6

A.E.W. has a large group of junior fencers, and from age 6 you can already step onto the piste. Younger children can join by arrangement.

On Mondays the juniors train in two age groups: the youngest on epee, the older ones choosing between foil, epee or sabre. On Thursdays all junior fencers come together regardless of age, with sabre fencers training alongside the other weapons.

Renting or buying your own

Just starting out? You do not need to invest straight away. Beginning fencers borrow equipment from the club. If you keep fencing, you gradually acquire your own gear. The club helps you find the right equipment, both new and second-hand.

Junior points tournament

For many junior fencers the JPT is the first taste of competition outside the club. The low-threshold format makes it perfect for that.

Over 10 events a year you build up points: every bout won and every touch scored keeps adding up. At 1000, 2000 and 3000 points you earn a diploma, and at each milestone also a brassard for your fencing jacket.

Competition within the club

Bouts are fenced every training night, but the real head-to-head competition is at the club championships, open to juniors too, on all weapons.

Interested in the JPT? Speak to one of the trainers or the board, or sign up via Nahouw. More information about dates and the programme can be found on the tournaments page.
