Questions we often get
Can't find your question? Feel free to contact our secretary or come and watch a training session.
From what age can I or my child start fencing?
Children can fence on the piste from age 6. Younger than 6 is possible by arrangement. There is no upper limit: our oldest member is 80.
Do I need my own equipment for the first lessons?
No. For trial lessons and introductory courses you receive all required equipment (mask, jacket, glove, weapon) on loan from the club. You only need sportswear and clean indoor shoes.
What should I wear for a trial lesson?
Long sports trousers, a T-shirt and clean indoor shoes are enough. Protective fencing equipment is provided on the spot.
How much does membership cost?
The last published rates for 2025 are: junior members up to 22 years € 230 per year, seniors (23+) € 275 per year and university students € 137.50 per year. Mandatory KNAS membership is charged separately. Ask the secretariat for the current rates; see the fees section for the full overview.
Can I just come and watch first?
Yes, any time. Feel free to drop in during a training night (Monday or Thursday). Please let the secretary know in advance by email via the contact page.
Which weapon should I start with?
The youngest juniors normally start with epee. After that, you can choose foil, epee or sabre. The trainer will help you choose the weapon that suits you best.
Is fencing dangerous?
Fencing is a relatively safe sport. Protective clothing, equipment and strict rules help keep it safe. The club ensures that equipment is maintained according to the applicable requirements.
How often can I train?
We offer training on Monday and Thursday evenings. You can attend one or both evenings, regardless of your age group.
How do I register for competitions?
Check the competition on Nahouw and discuss taking part with one of the trainers or the board. Follow the club's registration instructions; see tournaments for the current calendar and dates.
